Mr Ugur Nedim (or just 'Nedim') is the principal of our firm.

He has a long career as an exceptional criminal defence lawyer and has been recognised by the Law Society of NSW as an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist for many years.

Mr Nedim commenced his criminal law career in 1992 as a law clerk with specialist criminal law firm Brezniak Neil-Smith and Co., under the Mentorship of Legendary criminal defence lawyer Angus Neil-Smith (now retired).

He completed a combined Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts degree, then a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and finally a Master of Laws; achieving a rare 'High Distinction average' in his Masters Degree at Sydney University.

He commenced practising as a criminal & traffic defence 'advocate' (in-court lawyer) for prominent criminal defence firm Freemans in late 1998; representing clients in a range of criminal & driving cases such a 'drink driving', 'assault', 'AVO', 'drug cases' etc.

He conducted dozens of defended hearings, achieving an outstanding success rate.

He started 'Nedim Lawyers - Criminal Defence Specialists' in 2001, which later became 'Sydney Criminal Lawyers'.

Since that time, Mr Nedim has represented clients in some of Australia's highest profile and most difficult criminal cases, including:

Australia's largest ever drug importation trial, which involved the importation of over $600 million dollars worth of heroin; all 3 clients found 'not guilty'.
Over 15 murder trials, including those arising from the 2003 'gangland wars' in Western Sydney;
Dozens of other serious criminal trials, including extremely complex fraud trials, serious sexual assault trials (including 5 back-to-back trials of an alleged serial sex offender in 2009 who was found 'not guilty' in all 5 trials), trials for 'aggravated armed robberies' etc.

Mr Nedim is a dedicated and highly respected criminal lawyer who carries a great deal of influence and professional clout amongst prosecutors and courts alike.

He fights hard to have cases 'dropped' and is frequently able to defend and win cases where other lawyers are unable to do so (see Recent Cases).

He is also vastly experienced in less-serious local court cases, having conducted an estimated 2000 local court matters over his career, with a particular emphasis on 'drink driving', 'assault', 'fraud', 'indecent assault', 'AVO' and 'drug' cases.

Mr Nedim is unique in that he has always practised as a high quality criminal & traffic defence lawyer.

He did not start as a commercial lawyer or prosecutor, which have little or no relevance to high quality defence work. He was never employed by the Legal Aid Commission.
